Finding stillness in the pottery process gives one an opportunity to slow down. It’s a very calming, stress releasing, and meditative activity where your personal wellbeing is enhanced by the therapeutic and healing medium of clay. Communication, problem-solving, and experimentation skills are some of the many benefits of these workshops. During this session, we learn to let go of attachments and expectations and accept what comes from within. It’s the experience, rather than the end product that releases the inner calm. This experience can be tailored specifically for your Teambuilding Event.

Deidre Edward
I have been a potter for thirty-nine years, I started on this journey in my early twenties. I fell in love with clay, the instant I touched it. I dreamt of being a potter for life, I always say to everyone if I am a potter until my journey here comes to an end, I will have lived my dream. I truly don’t feel that I work.
-
Shenny Moss
Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about my pottery journey! I began as one of Deidre’s students in 1999, twenty-two years ago. I spent a lot of time living in remote communities and when I moved back to Darwin, I saw an ad in the paper for pottery classes.
-
June Towers
My journey into working with clay started in late 1992 when my second son was six months old. As a beginner, I felt intimidated but also loved the achievement of creating functional ware. I bought my first wheel and practiced at home with mixed results, most ended up in the bucket.
-
Melissa Moss
Melissa started her journey with clay as a youngster when she came along to my pottery classes aged eight. Shenny her mum encouraged her to return to classes a year ago to have some fun and use it as downtime to relax.
-
Jessikah Treumer
Jessikah, my beautiful Granddaughter dabbled in clay as a youngster. Two years ago she came to classes in earnest and fell in love with clay and stayed around. She has also become an invaluable team member at Aussie Potz, from assisting students with tutoring and any jobs that are required around the studio.

Prue Rathborne
I was lucky to stumble upon Dee’s fantastic studio in 2019 shortly after moving to Darwin. I’ve been very humbled to work so closely with her, harnessing and refining my processes and clay-making technique.

I began my pottery journey in 2019 at Deidre’s studio in Parap and never looked back. Deidre is a master of her trade and uses her expertise, refined technicality and authenticity to deliver a fabulous program and wonderfully cathartic experience. Her love of pottery and artmaking always translates into the studio and extends to her ongoing support to each individual. Her commitment to the craft and strong sense of community is truly admirable and inspiring. Deidre, Shenny and June have been fantastic mentors and friends who have encouraged me to become a pottery teacher myself. Her hungry passion for all things pottery is a gift that I now share and have an equal appetite for, and I look forward to many more messy days with clay in my hair!

I learnt so much from Deidre at Aussie Potz. I’d never done any pottery or ceramics and never thought I could as I work shift work. Thankfully Deidre was very flexible and let me catchup when a shift got in the way which I appreciated. I came with some friends and our “clay time” was one of the highlights of my week. I got to make lots of things (of varying quality, let’s be honest!) but I loved it so much I decided to buy my own wheel… I still miss our Saturday mornings in class with Deidre! Thanks for endless patience and creating a fun learning environment Deidre.

I had a marvellous time at the Aussie Potz classes. Such a beautiful creative space with learning and skill development in such a supportive and attentive environment. So looked forward to my Saturday mornings and if I wasn’t able to attend I could easily switch to another class held that week. Despite many of us having to move away from Darwin many from the class have continued our practice at home such was the level of skill conveyed and passion for ceramics taught to us by Deidre and Shenny.

Thank you for introducing me to the world of wheel throwing! It’s two hours a week of pure joy lopping clay about and a wonderful escape from everyday life. Deidre, June & Sophia are so friendly, down-to-earth and approachable – all are amazing potters who clearly love what they do and teaching their art. For someone who has never done pottery and would consider themselves artistically-challenged, no one has been more surprised at what I’ve been able to create. Importantly, Deidre’s thoughtfulness in running classes that can accommodate shift work have been instrumental in getting me down to the studio and being able to make up sessions – no other studio in Darwin offers the same great flexibility.
